Après moi,
le déluge

Après moi, le déluge is attributed to the indulgent monarch and infamous aqurian Louis XV.  Meaning"After me, the flood,"the man uttering this nihilistic expression cares nothing for what happens as a result of his actions as long as they don't impact him, for their harm will occur after his death and outside of his class standing. It's used in critiques of capitalism, which has grown to mimic some of the extravagance of the dying french monarchy of the 1700's with some minor aesthetic tweaks. Swap gilding for LED light, intricate and grand halls with the smooth and sinister gleam of tech, , cholera with SARS cov 2. Swap french peasent class with the gig economy workers and the exchange shifting nature of the digital world (would you like to update this app for better perfomrance?) This artwork invites the viewer to step closer to look at the strangely presented small-scale drawings on the block on the floor and then confronts them with a security light and the front of a hoard of bright shiny cars; a scene that in reality would be one of mortal danger.

How can we seek to disarm security?

How can we de- technologize security

Add culture subtract companies

Add culture subtract government

What constitutes the huge disparity between a bullet proof vest labeled SECURITY and security, a feeling of being safe in community and not because we are pointing our weapons and our hostile bright lights at the others around us?
